Khushiyon ka pitara...Meri wali Diwali!

"Thankyou Madam, iss baar diwali par chiwda, chakali nahi jamne wala tha banane, apne itni saari mithai dedi, abb diwali acche se jayegi", she said and I became dewy-eyed. The smile on my maid's face was a return gift to me, for diwali.

It's the small things that give you happiness in life, yes, it's the ultimate truth I believe.

The happy faces of people around us are the reasons we take those extra efforts.

Thanking the folks who have persistently helped me to navigate through my year, is top most agenda, during diwali.

Buying gifts to one and all. Wrapping them in colourful papers, decorating, writing personalised notes...all this makes me glad.

The cleaning of every knook and corner of the house, though consumes plenty time, is a lot of trouble, but when the spick and span abode shines brightly on the diwali day, the satisfaction is another level.

Decorating entrance and balconies with twinkling tints of light strings, hanging the vibrant 'akashkandil', placing embellished diyas in a row, altogether adds to the ambience of festivity. And makes me feel blissful.

In Maharashtra, during diwali, kids make killa (fort) from mud and bricks, placing 'Shivaji Maharj'  the great Maratha warrior with his mavale (battalion), gives you a high of bravery and a sense of strength. Helping my kids with this, giving them ideas to build, our interactions, we play with mud and water in the process, aren't these memories to cherish? Their beaming faces fills up my treasure trove.

I love making rangoli every year for diwali. Sometimes I make three different designs, on each day of diwali, Laxmi Pujan, Padwa and Bhaiduj. Getting up early in the morning, massaging oil and Ubtan to all the family members. Putting Tilak (vermilion) on their foreheads and circulating the plate with diya around them, to wish them luck and happiness throughout the year, appends to the trove of my happiness. There's a sacred atmosphere around this time, in the house which elates all the souls. I bring out the rangoli box, with copious colours. All these shades are spread into the rangoli in my courtyard. Kids join me, sometimes ruining my work, yet, adding exhilaration to the merriment.

The sweets and snacks that I make during diwali, though not a great cook, my loved ones relish them. And I feel contented watching them devour the items I have made with so much efforts, moreover, leaving behind my detest for cooking. I cook wholeheartedly, when it comes to celebrations and functions. This not-so-liked genre of mine, 'cooking', is done to it's best during such times.

Diwali is the festival of lights, takes away the gloom from our lives and spreads gleam into it. I believe in finding happiness in anything and everything, atleast during such occasions. This is what 'Meri wali Diwali' is and it surfiets my 'Khushiyon ka pitara'.

Whatever we are facing round the year, let's just forget for a while. Why not enjoy these carousal moments whenever possible?

This diwali don't forget to -

Kindle the luminescence of joy in your heart,

Springing up and being buoyant, isn't an onerous art,

Earnestly, pray to the Supreme,

To stay blessed in blithe and gleam,

Beacon and illuminate the ambience,

Do not deter from flaunting valiance!

Happy Diwali!
