And that's what home is for me!
"Yay! Let's hop in", say my boys. I take the driver's seat and my hubby reclines his seat to relax, so that he can drive in the later half. Goa from my place is a 10 hours drive. But this time we had decided to travel by road. We were a bit late to book flight tickets and now they seemed exorbitant. Moreover, boys wanted to do a road trip. So we stacked Pringles, Mochas, Cup cakes, Biscuits and cookies, chocolates, chiwda and water bottles and took off.
Leaving your home for a vacation, filled with excitement and eagerness to enjoy the holidays, it's very exhilarating. The long car drive, listening to favourite
songs of each one, turn by turn, then debating over which road to take, getting irritated over the missed turns, all in all, a dramatic ride.
You reach your destination. It's a beautiful 5-star property. The beach is right outside. The food spread for breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet, everything's delectable.
The happiness in getting this tasty food served hot on your table, without you taking any trouble, nor sweating in the kitchen, is extremely ecstatic. The beds are made by the house keeping. All the utilities are replaced after use. You don't have to worry whether the toothpaste is there or no, whether the bathroom is cleaned or the blankets are folded.
You take a walk on the beach, get drenched in the sea, have a great time and when you come back to the hotel, 'Tadaaa', high tea with snacks is ready for you. Bliss! Isn't it?
You enjoy each and every moment of this dreamy euphoric stay. Kids are loving the variety of desserts served, along with their favourite icecreams and Mojitos. "Why can't you make this at home?", my younger one asks me. And I give him a smile, which resembles a 'Sorry'. And he continues savouring whats in his plate.
We have fun for 4 days here, but then gradually, hearts start longing for our home. Yes! The 5-star facilities don't attract us for yonks. You suddenly start missing your pillow, your quilt, your side of the bed. The food, plain homemade food, appears in front of your eyes. You start missing your quick evening walks, your exercise routines with friends. You yearn to go back to the routine, well, mundane it may be, but it's pleasure to carry out your day to day activities at your home.
When you come back, you feel equally excited just like you felt while leaving. The vacation has rejuvenated your mind but you're as happy and delighted to return to your abode. Putting things back in their places, making fresh beds, unpacking, all this seems burdensome, but you love doing it, because it's your home.
You walk around in the garden to make sure plants were watered properly in your absence. Your face glows when you see flowers have bloomed....you feel at home now.
The simple dal rice you cook, also tastes delicious. "Yum!", exclaims my younger one. And I give a smile, this time resembling 'Thankyou'.
The couch that you relax on while watching TV is exceptionally relaxing. The study table you sit at, when writing creative pieces, is the best place in the world.
No doubt that the property you visited was spick and span, but the mess at your home shows that there are kids around. The decibels, be it quarrels over petty things or bathroom singers, even if they are no match to the sound of sea waves, but they make your home alive.
The hot cup of coffee you make after a tiresome day, and sip slowly while reclining in your chair, can't be compared to any Starbucks latte.
You add the pictures of this recent holiday in your album, augmenting the treasure trove of your memories.
And when you relax, laying on your bed, feeling cosy in your quilt, the smell is familiar, the room is familiar, this sleep is renewing even more. Isn't our home the best place to be?
