Iss dil ka kya karun?

"Even if you try it 100 more times the answer would be the same. There are no flames in here, see, it's showing 'E-ENEMY' in blocks, again", said Geeta. And I was scribbling 'Flames' to make a perfect match with him.

I knew somewhere deep in my heart that he didn't like me. He never bothered to ask me how I was, nor greeted me with a smile, for that matter. He smirked and smiled, with his other friends, but he was always cautious of his expressions when it came to me.

"Stop wasting pages of your notebook Shweta", Geeta flicked my head.

I wanted to stop being stupid too. But Iss dil ka kya karun...mei kya karun...mei kya karun!

"Why haven't you tried talking to Gaurav? Your 'flames' shows 'A- affection' and that's how things start", I winked at her. Geeta always brushed away Gaurav's topic. But I knew that she liked him.

I used to rush to school, bicycling hastily, so that I could reach before Sandeep, the guy I had crush on. So that I could see him entering the school and feel blessed to see him wear the same uniform as mine(we were in the same colour house), sharing the same classroom with me....sounds filmy? Well, that's how teen love is...right?

I would wait under the tree, holding my bicycle and once Sandeep entered the premises, I walked slowly behind him. Sandeep never cognized my presence. I was always his classmate, but he never talked to me, even when I tried to make a move. Yet....kehne pe chalta nahi, kuch dinon se meri bhi sunta nahi, tu hi bata iss dil ka mei..uff..mei kya karun!

That day Geeta was scribbling something on the paper and I peeped from behind. Flames - Sandeep/Preeti....'M-marriage'...as soon as she sensed my presence she erased it hurriedly. "Already seen it", I said in a low tone. "Yesterday I saw Sandeep and Preeti at the cafe near my house. They were holding hands", Geeta said, she was holding my hand with her fingers entangled in mine. I hugged her, few droplets rolled down from my eyes over my cheeks and drenched her shoulder.

"Idiot, are you crying?", Geeta wiped my tears. "Hey! It's life, it happens, we are still in our teens. We would come across so many people in our lives ahead. Just chill", she smiled and cheered me up.

In the lunch break, I was taking out my tiffin box and found a crushed paper ball that fell off from Geeta's bag. Geeta had left the classroom with her tiffin already. I picked it up, it read....

Flames...Shweta/Gaurav...'L- love'.

I looked around, Gaurav was right there waiting in the class, four benches behind me. He smiled, when my eyes fell on him. Geeta was at the classroom door, "You coming with me, Shweta?", she said. And I stood there holding the chit in my hand.

Na jane gum hai kaha? Baaton mei hai pada, bekaar ki, Ulti yeh baat hai...Aise halat hai, galti kare yeh mei bharu.....

Uff dil ka kya karun?....

AUTHOR'S NOTE: #Fiction for #Throwbackthursdays

Just thought of taking you all back to school when we all have done this 'Flames' thing before. F-friendship, L-love, A-affection, M-marriage, E-enemy, S-sisters. We paired our names with our crush and scratched the common letters, the remaining letters then got us our score in Flames.

It doesn't lead us anywhere but in our teens we tend to believe in anything and everything. We enjoyed doing this too.
